What is a Certified Surgical Technologist? |
|
A certified surgical technologist (CST) is
a member of the surgical team who works with surgeons, anesthesiologists,
certified registered nurse anesthetists, registered nurses, and other
surgical personnel in delivering patient care. The CST assumes appropriate
responsibilities before, during and after surgery.
The program at Gulf Coast Community College is a one-year, full-time
program of study leading to eligibility to sit for the certification exam.
Each school year we will accept 16 qualified high school
graduates or GED prepared who are 18 years of age or older. Pre-requisites
include completion of an approved Medical Terminology and General Biology
course (A&P I and II can be substituted).
Information about the selection process is contained in the Surgical
Technologist Application Package available from the Health Sciences
Division at the college.
